HMPRESENTLY: Good, Old Creaky Things

‘Lumbago’ doesn’t come up much, when you’re searching, online.

In old TV shows and movies, actors stretching, trying to ease an aching back, would complain about their lumbago acting up.

Hearing creaking sounds in our house gets me thinking about lumbago. It’s like our place is trying to ease a crick in its back.

I’ve been thinking that might sort of describe Pagosa Springs, from what I’ve been gathering, hearing about your town.

Maybe because creaky, old things, like classic cars, are very cool, in their own sort of way.

People who have purchased old homes around our community, generally, have the innards gutted, and family rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and all, totally rebuilt… and that can be really nice and appealing.

But so are creaking sounds, in a way.

Thinking about Pagosa, I’m picturing someone like Walter Brennan, who often played the sidekick in old western movies. He might have been one of the actors ruminating about lumbago.

Pagosa, it seems to me, may be experiencing a little of its own lumbago, from time to time, with planning and development proposals on drawing boards, and in the works.

Progress can be great, sometimes. But old homes and classic cars can be pretty appealing, too.
