READY, FIRE, AIM: A Few Words from a Candidate Who Wears Plaid Shirts

In case you hadn’t heard, the Colorado Avalanche hockey team won the Stanley Cup playoffs on Sunday. Denver will be hosting a parade today, and is expecting hundreds of thousands of people to turn out.

All of which has nothing at all to do with the topic I wanted to write about, which is plaid shirts.

Adam Frisch, a Democratic Party candidate for U.S. Congress in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, reportedly drove 1,900 miles over the past week, with his family in tow. He was also towing a trailer labeled with the words “BEAT BOEBERT BUGGY”.   He visited 56 communities and ended up winning the Democratic Party spot on the November 2022 ballot.

He seems to have every intention of defeating incumbent Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, whom he has described as “a threat to our way of life and a threat to our Constitution.”

He’s also been quoted as saying he wants to “save our Democracy from a radical conspiracy nut” and that “Boebert is weak and going to lose.”

I’m not sure Mr. Frisch should be using language like that.

Doesn’t he know, that Rep. Boebert wears a gun? And presumably, knows how to use it?

Real Coloradans occasionally wear guns, and some wear plaid shirts.  Adam Frisch was not wearing a gun in any of the campaign materials I saw during the primary election, but he often wore a plaid shirt.

I have never seen Rep. Boebert in a plaid shirt.  Besides wearing a gun, she has been known to wear a MAGA hat, which makes a more clearly political statement than a plaid shirt does.  A plaid shirt just means you are a ranch owner, or you work for ranch owner, or you’re running for office in western Colorado.

Wearing a gun and a MAGA hat means you are a radical conspiracy nut.  The kind of person who is enormously popular in the 3rd Congressional District.

Just to be clear — since I’ve often been accused (unfairly) of biased reporting — I did not vote for Lauren Boebert in the recent primary election.  But almost everyone else did, apparently.

I also did not vote for Adam Frisch.

Nor do I own a plaid shirt. Or a MAGA hat.  Or a gun.

I do, meanwhile, have a strong affection for the Underdog.  I suspect Mr. Frisch is the Underdog in this campaign.  So I will not be reporting any of the unkind things the Boebert campaign might say about Mr. Frisch over the next four months.

Like, for example, about his wardrobe.

As a side note… while researching the history of plaid shirts in Pagosa Springs, I found an online link to:

Plaid Jobs in Pagosa Springs, CO (Apr 2022) – Plaid Recruitment …

The search engine summary read, “Plaid Jobs in Pagosa Springs, CO – plaid hiring for Pagosa Springs, CO location. Apply now for the latest 38 plaid vacancies in Pagosa Springs, CO. Hiring Now…”

But when I clicked the link, I got this message:

Writing on the wall?

If so, I hope Mr. Frisch is paying attention.
