EVENT: Meet Archuleta County Candidates This Thursday, June 16

Archuleta County voters are invited to a free event this Thursday, June 16, at 7pm at the Tennyson Event Center, to meet some of the candidates running for County offices.

Mail ballots have been arriving for this month’s primary election, with registered Republicans receiving one ballot, registered Democrats a different ballot, and Unaffiliated voters receiving both the Republican and Democratic ballots. Unaffiliated voters are allowed to vote either ballot, but must choose one or the other; they cannot vote in both party primaries.

The Pagosa Daily Post, in cooperation with Pagosa.com, is sponsoring this free candidates forum to allow local Archuleta County candidates to share their qualifications and intentions, and to allow the public to hear them answer questions about the key issues facing our community. Questions will be posed by the moderator; none of the candidates have received the questions in advance.

All six candidates in contested local elections have been invited to participate, including Unaffiliated candidates.

County Commissioner Candidates: Veronica Medina (Republican), Rachel Suh (Unaffiliated), Alvin Schaaf (Republican).

County Sheriff Candidates: Wayne Bryant (Unaffilifated), Mike Le Roux (Republican), Boyd Neagle (Republican).

As of Monday, June 13, the following three candidates have committed to participate: Rachel Suh, Wayne Bryant, Boyd Neagle.

Local candidates running unopposed on the June 28 primary ballots have not been included in the event.

The Tennyson Event Center is located at 197 Navajo Trail Drive, next door to Boss Hogg’s Restaurant. The forum will begin at 7pm. Doors open at 6:40pm.

The primary election ballots also allow voting on statewide candidates. June 20 is the last day for an individual to submit a voter registration application and still get a ballot in the mail.

Primary election day is June 28. The polls open from 7am to 7pm, at the Election Office in the downtown Archuleta County Courthouse.

Here are the numbers for Colorado voters:

Democrats: 1,069,637 Republican: 956,294 Unaffiliated: 1,682,574 Total active voters: 3,775,931.
