Children ages five and under are invited to a special free performance of “Ms. Joy” at the Ruby Sisson Library today, Thursday, March 3, from 10-11am, put on by Creede Repertory Theatre (rescheduled by the theatre from February 16.)
“Ms. Joy” is about a woman who has a very strict daily — until one day she receives a visit from an unexpected dog who turns her routine upside down. The story is told through clowning, puppetry and sound. It teaches children the power of play, friendship and laughter.
Mark your calendar for the Book Sale
Planning already is underway for the Friends of the Library annual book sale, one of the highlights of the summer for locals and visitors alike.
This year’s book sale will open on Thursday evening, June 23 at 6pm for members (memberships are available at the door), and then open to the public on Friday and Saturday June 24-25. It will be in a new location – in the Fellowship Hall at the United Methodist Church in downtown Pagosa. And it’s a new time of year as well, moving to June to avoid the month of August which is so busy with community events including the Archuleta County Fair.
The Friends book sale is an ideal venue for finding treasures for yourself and gifts for family and friends. You’ll find lots more than books to buy at great bargain prices – there are audio books, DVDs, puzzles and games as well. While you enjoy these treats, you’ll be contributing to the health of your library.
Every year the proceeds from the book sale are gratefully received by your library to ensure ongoing excellence of our collection, our facilities and our service to you. Last year in two and a half days, the Friends’ book sale raised more than $2,000.
The Friends always need help sorting, boxing and preparing for the sale. As well, year-round our volunteers go to the library to sort through donations to find the ones appropriate for the annual sale. Tax forms are available free at your library while supplies last.
Adult book club next Tuesday
Ruby’s Book Club meets in person from 2-3pm on Tuesday, March 8 to discuss “Madhouse at the End of the Earth” by Julian Sancton. Copies are available for pickup at your library. This book club is held the second Tuesday of each month, alternating between fiction and nonfiction titles.
Teen gaming
Free teen gaming happens on Tuesday, March 9 from 4–5:30pm for teens in the 6th-12th grades. Enjoy X-box 360 Kinect, Wii and snacks.
Family storytimes
Wednesdays from 10-11am join us for free in-person children’s stories, games and plenty of reasons to get up and move. Special guests Lisa Baker and her friend Fluffy Dog will provide puppets and storytelling on March 9. The next Discovery Time takes place Saturday, March 5 on Facebook at 2:30pm.
Tech Time
Free in-person slots are available from 10am-noon Tuesdays and 2-4pm Thursdays. Brad will help you resolve issues with your computer, smartphone, tablet and other electronic devices.
Writing challenge
A new all-ages writing challenge was posted February 28 on the library’s Facebook page. We hope you will challenge your creativity by participating in this free all-ages activity.

“King Richard” starring Will Smith is based on the true story of Venus and Serena Williams. “The Cannabis Question” is a NOVA documentary about the medical risks and benefits of marijuana. “This is Us” is the complete fourth season.

“Lift Your Voice” by Angela Harrelson, George Floyd’s aunt, is a story of hope. “Born of Lakes and Plains” by Pulitzer Prize finalist Anne F. Hyde is a history of five mixed-descent families who played pivotal roles in American history.
Mysteries and thrillers
“The Accomplice” by Lisa Lutz features two long-time best friends who find themselves involved in a murder. “All That is Secret” by Patricia Raybon tells of a Black theologian called home to Denver to solve her estranged father’s murder. “The Good Son” by Jacquelyn Mitchard focuses on the aftermath of a crime in a close-knit community.

“Lightning in a Mirror” by Jayne Ann Krentz is the final installment of the chilling Fogg Lake trilogy. “Something to Hide” by Elizabeth George is a mystery featuring Det. Insp.
