‘Healthy Archuleta’ Hosts Virtual Community Conversation Today

You may have heard of, or participated in, the work of the Healthy Archuleta, dba FSFE-Food Coalition. We are a local non-profit organization that works to advance nutrition security and health equity so that everyone has access to nutritious affordable foods in Archuleta County.

Healthy Archuleta invites the community to participate in our upcoming virtual Community Conversation today, Thursday January 13, from 2 – 3pm. We will be hosting a retrospective year in review looking at the highlights from 2021 and share with you what we have planned for part of 2022. Some of our programs include: partnering with Care and Share and the middle school to provide fresh fruit snacks for students; supporting backyard growers to grow and share their produce through the food pantry network to their clients; conducting educational programs for families and children that focus on nutrition education, heritage cooking and garden to table learning; supporting the six local food pantries that makeup the food pantry network in Archuleta County with fresh foods and conducting food demonstrations to promote local and fresh food recipes at pantry sites for community clients.

This past summer Archuleta Housing Elders, the Girl Scouts and Food Coalition community volunteers joined forces to build and plant raised beds, line them with plastic sheeting, fill them with mulch, compost, and soil and finally plant a variety of vegetable and flower plants donated from a local organization.

These are just some of the efforts that Healthy Archuleta will look to expand with its programming while we deepen our reach into the community around nutrition security, wellness and health equity. Join us to learn more and understand how you can become involved in contributing to an equitable and sustainable food system in Archuleta County. Join us on Zoom https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83978862954 for the virtual meeting.
