READY, FIRE, AIM: We Can’t Afford Tomorrow

I’m not entirely sure how I got on the email list for Heidi Ganahl’s campaign.

At least, I think I ended up on her list. But maybe not? Her campaign organization seems a bit confused about my actual name.

Ms. Ganahl is running for Governor of Colorado as a registered Republican, against our current Democratic governor, Jared Polis. The election will take place in November, 2022, so Ms. Ganahl’s campaign organization is working hard to raise funds. In a clever allusion to the 2022 election, they wanted me to contribute $22.

It’s not an auction, to become Governor, of course. Winning the 2022 Governor’s race is not necessarily related to the amount of money you can raise.

Which, in the case of Ms. Ganahl, is probably a good thing, as she hinted in her campaign email sent to me. Or to someone named [First Name] who shares my email address.

To win, we don’t have to be the highest bidder. It is not an auction to be governor. But we do need your grassroots support, and that’s why I am asking for your help today. Our grassroots movement to change Colorado builds momentum every single day. And with your generous $22 Tuesday contribution, we are going to show those liberal elites in Denver that we are tired and fed up with their out-of-touch leadership and we aren’t going to take it anymore.

[First Name], can I count on you to join our movement to take back Colorado by donating $22 today?

Thank you for your support!
Heidi

Most of my friends call me ‘Louis’.  But I have been called by other names as well. If Ms. Ganahl’s campaign organization wants to call me [First Name], I’m not going to make a big fuss about it.  This isn’t an auction, and Ms. Ganahl doesn’t have to be the highest bidder, to become the next Governor of Colorado. Or, have the most accurate email list.

From ColoradoPols.com:

Last week we noted that Republican gubernatorial candidate Heidi Ganahl was poised to submit a very rough fundraising report for her first quarter as an official candidate. According to Ganahl’s own campaign, the perceived Republican front runner had raised just $137,000 — or $13,000 less than little-known U.S. Senate candidate Erik Aadland collected in Q3.

Ganahl’s campaign filed its official report with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office on Friday, however, and the news is actually worse than it first appeared last Wednesday. Team Ganahl has just $125,000 cash-on-hand, which is not good… but the campaign would only have $75,000 in the bank if not for a $50,000 loan from the candidate.

But this is not an auction. You don’t have to be the highest bidder to win Colorado’s highest office. Even if our current governor has an estimated net worth of $400 million, and spent $23 million of his own money during his 2018 campaign.

I think Ms. Ganahl’s official campaign slogan really hits that nail on the head.

The slogan alludes, no doubt, to the spending patterns of elected Democrats (like Governor Polis)… but it might also refer to Ms. Ganahl’s own campaign.

Unfortunately for Ms. Ganahl, it also applies to my own personal financial situation.

We’re all, I think, looking forward to The Day After Tomorrow.
