Free Family Friendly Festival at Chimney Rock This Weekend

Step back in time at CRIA’s annual Life at Chimney Rock Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30, from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day. Bring the whole family… the entry to the Festival is free!

Family activities and interactive demonstrations of the skills of the Ancients will include throwing a spear with the atlatl, pottery making, making a rock pictograph, weaving, corn grinding, working with yucca fibers, learning about astronomy at Chimney Rock and Navajo sand painting.

Come prepared to shop and talk with nine Native American artists who will be demonstrating and selling their work. The artists are from Santo Domingo, Santa Clara, Zuni, Laguna, and Acoma Pueblos as well as the Navajo Nation. Their work includes wood carvings, jewelry, pottery, and sand paintings. On Saturday, “the Crazy Coop” food truck will be serving delicious country-style food for purchase, and on Sunday the “Mexican in the Mountains” food truck will have food for purchase.

Make sure to download the “Agents of Discovery” app before heading to Chimney Rock National Monument. There is no internet at the Monument, but once the app is downloaded, you can play it without WiFi or a data connection. To get started, create an Agent Profile and make sure to save your login information. (A parent must approve the account before playing.) The app can be downloaded from Google Play (Android users) & the App Store (Apple users). Get ready to move, play, learn, and explore Chimney Rock National Monument during the Life at Chimney Rock Festival!

Chimney Rock National Monument is located 17 miles west of Pagosa Springs and 3 miles south on Highway 151.
