LETTER: Suckers and Losers

On Saturday morning — September 5 — following a late Friday night tweet from Trump asking Fox News to fire her, the network’s national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin told host Neil Cavuto that Trump did indeed use the sort of language The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg reported.

In 2018, Trump called the Marines buried near Bellieau Wood “suckers and losers.”

“Well, I (Griffin) circled back with my source this morning and he firmly said this was not a one-off,” adding that Trump “according to my source, used the word ‘suckers’ and used that term repeatedly to describe McCain and anyone who went to Vietnam.” Griffin continued, “he always described Vietnam vets as those who couldn’t get out of it and he would often say to his advisers when they suggested that he go to visit the war dead, ‘What is it about you guys and guys who get killed?’ So, he used ‘losers.’ That’s a big part of the president’s vernacular. I think anyone who’s been around him knows that.”

Later on Saturday, Fox News continued to undermine Griffin’s reporting… Fox’s best integrity and honesty at work.

So tell me, are people still wearing MAGA hats?… even those who served in ‘Nam’ or anywhere in uniform for our nation? if so, they would be a natural as a ’Super Patriot’… standing with their AR-15 in the back of a truck with a total lack of understanding of what they’re supporting.

Trump has long disparaged the military (except his private army of goons and militia), John McCain, Mattis and really all the Defense generals and admirals whom he has fired because they had the courage to disagree. I’m sure folks have listened critically to General W. Clark or Admiral McCraven’s very negative comments regarding him? Trump apparently faked five medical deferrals from Vietnam service and then in his own words, “I got a lucky (draft) number”

And what did Trump say when the death toll was just 160,000+ Americans from COVID-19…

“It is what it is.”

What a guy… a man with a heart!

The number one duty of a President is to defend the nation. Bob Woodward’s new book “Rage” (out next week) lays bare the most staggering act of presidential negligence of modern times. Trump’s transgression shows that he abrogated the most basic duty of a president: safeguarding the health and safety of the American people. What’s even more staggering is his supporters have switched from defense to ‘vote for him regardless of who he is and has done.’

As a former Marine who served from 1960 to 1964, and unsuccessfully volunteered for Vietnam in 1962, I personally detest his cowardice and demeanment of those who served.
