The Vista Lake Community garden continues to meet on a weekly basis each Thursday from 5:30 – 7:00pm to plan and organize events and activities for the upcoming growing season. Anyone is invited to attend these weekly meetings.
Additionally, the Community Learning and Leadership Circle (CLLC) which oversees the leadership of the community garden would like community members to save the date for Sunday afternoon May 15th from 4 pm – 5:30 pm for a garden social and clean up including the planting of cold season crops like greens, peas, broccoli and more. We will have a work day at the site of the existing community garden located behind PLPOA at 230 Port Ave. Help us weed, amend the soil, and then tuck in seeds and water them to get the season started.
We will also have some healthy snacks and opportunities for you to connect with your neighbors and fellow community members. You will also get the chance to learn about the future site of the Vista Lake Community garden which includes 26 raised beds and a tilled community garden plot.
Come learn what membership in the community garden means and ways for you, your family and friends to get involved. For questions please contact us at fsfearchuleta@gmail.org or 401-371-3227.
Healthy Archuleta to Host Participatory Voting
Healthy Archuleta, dba FSFE – Food Coalition works alongside Archuleta county residents to identify opportunities and resources to support community-based initiatives throughout the county that advance nutrition security and health equity.
An immediate opportunity presents itself for the community from May 22-25, all residents of the county including youth (5th grade and older) are asked to cast their vote on which programs Healthy Archuleta will prioritize getting resources for and implementing over the next two years. This is an opportunity to have your voice heard and help determine programing opportunities focusing on nutrition security that will last over two years.
Since the pandemic, the FSFE – Food Coalition has focused a number of its efforts on food security. In 2019-2020, the Coalition conducted a community food assessment that identified issues and opportunities related to advancing an equitable community-based food system. A variety of community identified solutions were prioritized and a number pilot tested. As Healthy Archuleta continues its work alongside the community, it is seeking to inform the community of its effort and gather input into helping prioritize the programs. We are asking you to share your voice in a community wide vote on May 22-27 to help us prioritize what areas of programming seem most relevant and impactful to you as a community member.
After we have heard your voice and collected all the votes, Healthy Archuleta will seek resources to implement the program over two years. For more information, please contact us at fsfearchuleta@gmail.org or 401-371-3227.
