LPEA Cancels Director Election, as All Four Directors Run Unopposed

For the first time since 2004, the La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) Board of Directors has voted to cancel the 2022 LPEA director election in all four districts.

In accordance with LPEA Bylaws, one seat in each of LPEA’s four districts comes up for election annually. If there is only one nominee for a position on the board for a district, the board may cancel the election for that district and, by resolution, declare the sole nominee elected to the board. As no challenger applications were received, Holly Metzler (District 1 – Archuleta County), Dan Huntington (District 2 – South & West La Plata County), Joe Lewandowski (District 3 – City of Durango), and John Witchel (District 4 – North & East La Plata County) are re-elected as director of their respective districts as of May 12, 2022, for a three-year term.

“The past year has been an important one for the LPEA board, with key decisions made on broadband, future power supply, capital credit refunds to members, and other issues directly impacting the communities we serve,” said LPEA CEO Jessica Matlock. “We thank our community for supporting us in these efforts and hope this uncontested election means our members are confident in our current board and happy with our communications and decisions over this past year.”

Members will not receive a ballot in the mail this year, given the cancellation. Members are still encouraged to attend and participate in LPEA’s 2022 Annual Meeting at the LPEA headquarters in Bodo Park – or via Zoom – on Thursday, May 12 at 5:00 p.m. For more details, visit lpea.coop/annual-meeting.
