The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College welcomes the acclaimed theatrical circus company Cirque Mechanics and its newest touring production, Tilt!, on Wednesday, November 12..
Fresh off the success of its Drama Desk Award-nominated production Zephyr and a five-week holiday run of Yuletide Factory at New York City’s New Victory Theater, Cirque Mechanics invites audiences to embark on a high-flying journey through the magic, thrills, and nostalgia of America’s iconic 1980s amusement parks.
Bursting with jaw-dropping acrobatics, breathtaking aerial artistry, daring juggling, and inventive mechanical marvels, Tilt! reimagines the amusement park experience through Cirque Mechanics’ signature blend of storytelling and human-powered engineering. The cast brings together artists from circus, gymnastics, dance, and clowning across the United States.
At the heart of the production is an awe-inspiring, giant human-powered Ferris wheel, surrounded by whimsical contraptions inspired by the era’s classic rides and midway games.
Tilt! follows a weary amusement park worker whose enthusiasm for the job has long since faded — until a chance encounter changes everything. When he confiscates a guest’s boom box, a playful chase begins and quickly spirals into a whirlwind of stunts, surprises, and laughter. What starts as a conflict becomes a heartfelt connection, reminding audiences that joy and common ground can be found in the most unexpected places.
The production immerses audiences in the vibrant sights, pulsing sounds, and playful spirit of the 1980s, with music and design elements that celebrate the decade’s unforgettable style.
Tilt! is produced by Chris Lashua and Aida Lashua. Steven Ragatz wrote the production, with co-direction and choreography by Aloysia Gavre and assistant choreography by Janeen Johnson. The creative team also includes set designer Sean Riley, lighting designer Leo Hidalgo, composer Michael Picton, and costume designer Caroline Rodgers. Production stage management is led
