There’s a gap in the Chamber’s event schedule, so we decided to create a new event to highlight some different aspects of Colorado beverages. And, who doesn’t like a food competition?
So, master grillers and backyard BBQers, now is your opportunity to shine at the new Grillin’ and Distillin’ competition on August 23.
Grillin’ and Distillin’ will offer tasting tickets to the BBQ portion of the event or the distilling portion of the event, or both. Tickets are $25 for either tasting or, if you would like a combo ticket, those are $45.
Don’t eat meat or drink spirits? No problem. General admission tickets are also available for only $10, and you are able to enjoy other beverages such as beer and wine and other food vendors, as well as live music and general fun.
The event will be held at the Archuleta County Fairgrounds at the Hughes Pavilion from noon until 5pm.
Let’s address entering the event as a competitor. If you have participated in BBQ cook-offs before and had your food judged, then you would enter the Master Grillers category. If you are known among family, friends or neighbors as a really great griller, then the Backyard Griller category is for you.
If you would like to review the rules and guidelines for the event, visit the Chamber’s website.
There will be tasting categories for chicken, ribs, brisket and beans. All four categories are required for the Master Grillers. If you enter the Backyard category, you can enter all or multiple categories.
The gates for the tasting will open at noon. There will be judging every hour for each category. The People’s Choice award will be awarded at 5pm. All of these requirements are listed in the guidelines.
For attendees, tickets are already on sale at www.pagosachamber.com
As mentioned above, tickets can be purchased for either spirit or BBQ tasting. A discount is available for a combo tasting ticket. If you want to attend but don’t want to partake in either tasting, general admission tickets are available for $10, which allows you to choose other food options, other beverage options and to enjoy the live music. If you purchase a BBQ tasting or distilling tasting ticket, you are able to vote for the People’s Choice awards in each tasting, which will be awarded at the end of the day at 5pm.
We are very excited that the Colorado Distillers Association is working with us to bring to Pagosa Springs and highlight some of Colorado’s best distilled spirits.
Live music performers will be announced soon.
The intent is for the Chamber to grow this event and really make it another signature event for the Chamber. We like to gather around great food, so what better way to engage than a BBQ cook-off?
Questions about the event, whether as a participant or ticketed attendee, can be directed to Angela Maxey, event coordinator, at (970) 264-2360 or events@pagosachamber.com.
