LETTER: A Fun Way to Support a Local Author

Dear Pagosa People,

Are you aware that one of your fellow Pagosans is involved in a fun competition to help raise money for our very own Pagosa Library expansion?

If not, please allow me to try to stoke your interest and action!

James White, Octogenarian, Author, Retired Forest Service Leader, Hunter, Hiker, Fly Fisherman Extraordinaire, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and long-time member of St.Patrick’s Faith Community is in the running for “The Pagosa Pulitzer Prize”… and you can help him win this well-deserved humorous honor.

The Library Fundraiser is called ‘The Library Affair’ and features gorgeous table settings based on popular books, including James White’s’ book: Road to a Thin Place (what a Great title!), Stories of The Blanco Basin Road.

I am not writing on behalf of the family, or the library, or St.Pat’s, but am writing to ask you to vote on James’ ‘Library Affair’ book table because his is the only book in the lineup which is about this area, written by a local from this area. This book will prove interesting to anyone who lives in Pagosa now, though James and his wife CarolAnn have lived here for over 50 years; there will be stories about people you may not know exactly, but you surely know of them.

The Road to a Thin Place table setting is currently in fourth place in the Library Affair voting… I am hoping you might help send the BlancoBasinBook to #1.  Apparently the voting is all done online,  or at the actual Library Affair.

Online, you must ‘register’… and pay two dollars per vote (the money will go to the Library and the company handling the online voting) and you can also purchase tickets for ‘The Affair’ (which my husband Jeff and I did, of course.)

PSHS Culinary students are providing food… and the top two tables that evening will end in a live auction, sure to be an entertaining, exciting community event.

It isn’t too hard to negotiate the voting process online; but i am willing to help anyone who can’t figure it out, or if someone isn’t ‘online.’ There are some absolutely amazing prizes which will go with the winning purchaser of the table; you can see all the goodies when you go online to vote. Please join me in this worthy, easy effort.

Thanks in advance for your consideration…
