Dear Commissioners,
I am writing to you today after discovering that the Sheriff’s office has closed access to the lower portion of my property I own on Indian land road, via a road closure.
When I came to the road closure sign (over a mile in on the road), I reached out to a member of the Metro District Board to figure out what was going on. They stated that they were not consulted nor allowed to provide input.
Are you aware that this is how Metro District vehicles plow and maintain roads in unit 6? They already have publicly stated that this will create delays in plowing services (as they will have to remove the barricades). It also creates an overall safety risk by only leaving one ingress/egress route to a large number of residents (for instance if a vehicles suspension were to fail on CR700 due to its poor condition, and block access to Westview).
Due to lack of County maintenance, it is currently much easier on my vehicles to drive Indian Land Road rather than CR700. (Maybe if the County Road and Bridge budget hadn’t been cut to zero from property taxes previously… to direct funding to a jail the people voted “No” on… it wouldn’t be this way?)
While I can still reach my house with this road closure, I would like to point out that there is an individual with a county permitted driveway on Indian land that has been completely cut off by this closure.
It is my understanding that this closure was due to the perception that too many cars have recently gone off the road that were unprepared for winter conditions. Closing this plowed road due to poor preparation of a few is not fair to the rest of us.
I look forward to working with you on seeking a more reasonable and long term solution (like requiring snow tires/4WD or chains, as on other roads).
Thank you,
Kevin Ridley, P.E.
