Archuleta Dems to Share Annual Chili Supper This Saturday, October 4

By Shawna Seed

Here’s a recipe: Take an all-star lineup of political thinkers, add tables loaded with pots of chili, and season with sparkling conversation.

The result? The Archuleta County Democratic Party’s annual Chili Supper.

The festivities begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Archuleta County Extension Building at 344 Highway 84 – on the county fairgrounds.

Political luminaries including State Rep. Katie Stewart, Congressional candidate Alex Kelloff and state party chair Shad Murib will speak via video.

Stewart, from Durango, represents Archuleta County in the statehouse. Kelloff, a businessman, is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Jeff Hurd in 2026. Murib, who runs a ranch with his wife, has led the state party since 2023.

The program will begin with a color guard and include an overview of Democrats’ work in the county over the past year. Door prizes include a City Market gift card and soaking passes to the Overlook Spa.

The menu includes several varieties of chili and toppings, salad, cornbread, and dessert. Suggested donation for entry is $15 per person, $5 per wine, beer, or mocktails, and $10 for cocktails. Water, soft drinks, and coffee are free.

Guests can register online at https://form.jotform.com/242206070421138 and pay in advance. Payment also will be taken at the door.

The Chili Supper isn’t just for Democrats; unaffiliated voters and like-minded Republicans are welcome. All proceeds benefit ACDP.
