Are you looking for a rewarding way to connect with people from all over the world, share your knowledge, and spend time in a stunning outdoor environment? Chimney Rock Interpretive Association (CRIA) is excited to invite you to explore the many volunteer opportunities available at Chimney Rock National Monument.
If you have a passion for meeting new people, enjoying breathtaking scenery, and helping others appreciate the incredible natural and cultural wonders of Southwest Colorado, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
As a volunteer, you’ll have the chance to share your expertise and skills with visitors from across the globe, all while learning about the rich history of the Ancestral Puebloans who once lived in the area. Whether you’re interested in guiding tours, sharing your knowledge of archaeology, culture, astronomy, or geology, or helping with retail and educational programs, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Other available positions include serving as Plaza and Mesa Hosts, working with youth workshops, assisting with maintenance, supporting the Life at Chimney Rock program, or contributing to the Lecture Series.
CRIA welcomes volunteers from all walks of life and offers flexible opportunities to match your interests and availability. Whether you can commit a few hours or an entire season, you can choose the schedule that works best for you. Volunteers can set their own hours at the start of the year and adjust later on as they discover more ways to engage with the Chimney Rock community.
Our next Volunteer Open House will be this Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Chimney Rock Interpretive Association Office in Pagosa Springs, located at 2035 Eagle Drive, Suite 107, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147. This is your chance to learn about the various roles available and find the perfect fit for your talents and passions. The open house will be held from 12:00 noon – 2:00pm, and CRIA’s team will be available to answer questions, explain the volunteer offerings, and help you understand how you can contribute to Chimney Rock National Monument’s mission of cultural and natural preservation.
Volunteering at Chimney Rock National Monument is an enriching experience that will deepen your connection to this amazing place and its history, all while offering the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for the past and the natural world.
Current volunteer Susan Yalom shares, “I have been a volunteer at Chimney Rock National Monument for many years, working closely with the San Juan National Forest Service. I enjoy leading guided tours, supervising programs like Full Moon and Flute Music at Twilight, and assisting with youth programs. Volunteering has allowed me to connect deeply with the history of the Ancestral Puebloans who lived here over 1,000 years ago. The training and mentoring from CRIA have enhanced my knowledge, respect, and appreciation for both the past and the Native American communities present today. I invite others to join CRIA, where you can choose your level of involvement and receive training that will enrich your life while helping others learn about this special place.”
If you’re interested in becoming part of the Chimney Rock family, please join us for the informational meeting on Saturday, April 12, from 12:00 – 2:00pm at the Chimney Rock Interpretive Association Office in Pagosa Springs. We will be there to visit with you; explain our volunteer offerings; answer questions – and welcome you to the Chimney Rock family.
