Archuleta County Fair Board Seeking New Members

The Archuleta County Fair Board is seeking new board members for 2025.

This coming year the fair will celebrate 74 years and will be held from Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, August 3.

The Fair Board is a volunteer-based working board, which plans and executes the Archuleta County Fair annually. Volunteers must be county residents, agree to a three-year term, and plan to meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6pm, with the exception of July and August, when meetings become more frequent.

This year, in addition to planning the 2025 County Fair, members will begin larger plans for the 2026 event which will be the 75th anniversary of the fair. The year 2026 also celebrates 150 years of the State of Colorado, and 250 years of the United States of America.

“The Fair provides a fun event and the opportunity to socialize with other community members,” commented Fair Coordinator, Tonya Steadmon. “Our community is what holds our families and traditions together. We need each other to support and encourage others, and what better way than to volunteer and participate in the fair and all it brings.”

The 2024 Fair festivities boasted over 8,000 community members, with anticipation for more growth every year.

Board assignment is a two-step process in which candidates are first considered by the current Fair Board and then presented to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval. “My favorite part of being on the fair board is not only planning it, but being a part of our traditions and history,” Steadmon said. “It means a dedication to serving our community.”

Interested residents are encouraged to contact Steadmon by phone or email, 970-264-8424, tsteadmon@archuletacounty.org. Both she and Fair Board President Emily Martinez are available to answer any questions.
