Tomorrow, Saturday, October 12, the Pagosa Catholic Community will be one of more than 22,500 communities across the United States leading a public rosary rally. The rally is part of a 17-year public gathering focused on praying for our country, children and families.
With unrest surrounding the upcoming presidential election, along with Colorado ballot initiatives such as Amendment 79 that enshrines abortion, public prayer for our community and country takes on a higher urgency.
As explained by Susan Hampton, rally chairperson for the past six years, “If everyone would come together to pray for the forgiveness of our nation’s sins and turn to God versus turning to the things of this world, our nation would be a better place.”
America Needs Fatima, the organization leading the effort, shared that the number of rosary rallies in the United States has significantly increased over the years. International rallies, led by sister organizations, are also experiencing an expansion.
When asked what the underlying reason was for the increase in participation, the answer was “Hope.” It is the same hope that was witnessed in Fatima, Portugal, on October 13, 1917, by an estimated 70,000 Christians and non-Christians.
In addition to saying the rosary daily, the cornerstone of the rallies is that we need every prayer possible. This includes asking our Mother Mary to intercede on our behalf to her Son, Jesus Christ.
October is the “Month of the Rosary.” Rosary rallies will be happening around the world on Saturday, October 12, at noon. Individuals and families, including those with young children, are encouraged to meet at Bell Tower Park located on the corner of U.S. 160 and Lewis Street. Bring a chair, hat, bottled water and a rosary.
