Support of Prop 127 is backed by clear, independent science, which shows that lion populations will remain balanced and never overpopulate. This is how nature maintains equilibrium. Claims to the contrary are either misinformed or intentionally biased to support the cruel practice of lion trophy hunting.
Prop 127 is essential to protect our wild cats from inhumane practices like trophy hunting and fur trapping. Bobcats, for example, are trapped in harsh winter conditions, left to suffer before being killed for profit — largely to cater to foreign markets like China. Prop 127 includes provisions to allow killing a lion posing a threat to livestock, pets, or people.
Data from our own state confirms that all lion hunts are recreational and trophy-based, involving the use of dogs. Dogs are fitted with GPS collars and chase the lion up a tree where they are trapped and shot. Dogs sometimes tangle with the lion and die or are injured as a result. This practice is unethical and lacks scientific grounding, as stated by experts such as Dan Ashe, a hunter and former head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. By voting YES on Prop 127, we can put an end to these inhumane and outdated practices.
The cruelty is undeniable. Vote YES on Prop 127.
