Chimney Rock Interpretive Association invites you to attend the annual Life at Chimney Rock Festival held on June 1 and 2 at Chimney Rock National Monument from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily.
Admission to the Monument and festival is free.
Explore the skills of the Ancients by joining CRIA volunteers at the picnic area to make coil pottery, grind corn, pound yucca, throw a spear with an atlatl, weave and create rock art. Learn about astronomy, ancient hunting technology and dendrochronology. Taste a sample of Anasazi beans and get a close-up view of a peregrine falcon. See Smokey the Bear and Woodsy Owl.
Visit the Native American Market which is part of the event. Artists from Acoma, Jemez, Laguna, Santa Clara and Santa Domingo Pueblos as well as the Jicarilla Apache, Navajo, and Southern Ute Nations will be demonstrating their crafts while sharing their knowledge and skills with visitors. Shop for pottery, jewelry, paintings, wood carvings and other art.
Come hungry! Food vendors will have a variety of food items and drinks for sale including fry bread, Indian tacos, and Frito pie.
See a dance performance in the amphitheater at 2:00pm daily and 11am on Sunday. Two Native American dance groups, the Oak Canyon Dancers from Jemez Pueblo, and the Roach Family Dancers, a Lakota and Navajo family, will be performing.
Visitors to the festival will also have access to all the regular amenities at the Monument. These include self-guided tours of the cultural sites, access to the nature trail and the Visitor Plaza. The Monument is open from 9:00am to 4:30pm.
