Announcing the 51st annual Chama Chile Ski Classic! The event will take place January 13, 2024 — Martin Luther King weekend — in Chama, New Mexico.
Snowshoe and Cross-country skiers will have a full day of races available and racers will need to register to race in the event. Cross country ski races (classic and wood ski categories), snowshoe races and a rookie race are available for youth, adult, and senior racers! A clinic for new racers is also being planned. The 12km race will also be part of the Rossignol Southwest Series, and Nordic and ski clubs throughout the southwest are helping to ensure the event is supported. Event organizer John Beaver has helped groom the course for thirty years and stepped up to ensure the event continued.
Any funds raised over the cost of the event will be donated to the Chama Rotary for REAP (a local utilities assistance program for the elderly). Caleb Stotts, Chama Peak Land Alliance Executive Director, says that the event is important to the community and in years past has been a fundraiser for REAP.
“In partnership with a great team of sponsors and volunteers, we are excited to help with this community event and continue all the great work that has been done for years by race organizers.”
Local businesses are amping up to support the event and many hotels and beds and breakfasts will have a special rate for event participants. Make plans early to stay in Chama and know that event organizers are looking forward to seeing you all at the 51st Chama Chile Ski Classic!
