The Pagosa Springs Instrumental Music Society is pleased to announce our Fall Concert to be held tomorrow, Saturday, November 18, at 7pm in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium. The community band will perform six pieces selected by our three conductors — Larry Elginer, Malinda Burnett and Leo Baughman.
All our concerts are free of charge. However, we do gratefully accept donations to support our band and contribute to educational music programs in town.
Larry Elginer is a long-time conductor, teacher and performer. As a teacher, he taught for 38 years in the schools of southern California. As a performer, he was featured playing his trumpet in the opening of the original “M*A*S*H” movie. He will certainly entertain us with stories of his life between music pieces (as he knows horn players need a rest now and then.)
Malinda Burnett, saxophone, leads our middle school music program. She is a graduate of Fort Lewis College (music education) and Western State Colorado University (teacher leadership). The past two years she has had a huge influx of music students — upward of 70 per year. Most recently, she conducted the middle school band at the annual Veterans Day breakfast this past week.
We look forward to sharing the stage with these talented musicians at our spring Band-O-Rama concert.
Finally, Leo Baughman, trombone, has returned to Pagosa Springs High School as music director. Leo is a 2015 graduate of Pagosa Springs High and 2020 graduate of Fort Lewis College (music education). He taught music, band and choir in Alamosa and has performed with the San Juan Symphony. He also works with Curtains Up Pagosa as a sound technician, stage manager and director.
The community band is made up of local folks who love to play together. We welcome all ages and abilities — if you are willing to practice and learn, come meet us at this concert and join us for our next.
In the springtime the Instrumental Society gather with the middle school and high school to put on the Band-O-Rama concert. Then, for the Fourth of July, we welcome back former students to join us for a patriotic concert in the park.
Our Heralds of Christmas concert will be held on December 3 at 3pm at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 225 South Pagosa Blvd. Some of our members have formed ensembles to present beautiful winter season music for your enjoyment.
Join us in beautiful music throughout the year. We believe music is life. It is the icing on the cake, the smell of pine in the sun after a rain; it brings us memories of times gone by and provides hope for the future. Support live music in Pagosa, and come let us entertain you.
