OPINION: Anti-Semitism on Colorado College Campuses

Colorado Representative Yaron “Ron” Weinberg (R-Loveland) and Senator Dfana Michaelson Jenet (D-Commerce City) have released a joint statement regarding continued anti-Semitism on Colorado college campuses.

The blatant display of anti-Semitism across college campuses here in Colorado is disturbing.  In the wake of this [war], listen closely to what is being chanted and see the slogans on the posters that call for the eradication of the Jews from Israel.

We are not only seeing this from students, but we now even see anti-Semitism from within some college departments. The University of Colorado Boulder’s Department of Ethnic Studies has doubled down on their anti-Semitic and anti-Israel statements with a statement shunning Israel’s very existence on their homepage.

This is unacceptable but unfortunately has become far too common on our college campuses.

Earlier this year, anti-Semitism at the University of Denver was reported as “[sic] It’s gotten commonplace.” That follows a report from February this year that police were investigating anti-Semitic incidents at that campus.

Anti-Semitism is not exclusive to only our large college campuses. In April of this year, a swastika was painted on the Interfaith House at Colorado College. We must speak out against anti-Semitism no matter where it occurs.

We mourn the loss of all innocent people in this war.

We ask every Coloradan that stands against anti-Semitism to not remain silent. We must continue to speak out against these acts and not ignore its existence here in Colorado. If you stand with us, please consider asking your state representatives and state senators to publicly stand with us as well. Too many of our fellow legislators are remaining silent to anti-Semitism, we need to stand united and let our voices be heard.
