As of July 20, Pagosa Springs pickleball fans have access to eight new pickleball courts for residents and visitors to hone their skills, and enjoy the camaraderie of playing this fast-growing sport.
Cooperative efforts to raise money to construct the new courts were initiated roughly five years ago. Then, in late 2021, those efforts finally came to fruition through a partnership between the Town of Pagosa Springs, Archuleta County, the Pagosa Springs Area Tourism Board and the Pagosa Pickleball Club.
The Town of Pagosa Springs agreed to provide a location for the courts within the newly acquired Yamaguchi South property. The Town and Archuleta County each contributed $100,000. The Pagosa Springs Area Tourism Board donated $150,000, and the Pagosa Pickleball Club raised $100,000 from its members to fund the $450,000 project.
The outdoor courts are open from dawn to dusk and free for all to enjoy.
Open Play Daily
The courts offer “open play” from 8:00am-noon daily. The Pagosa Pickleball Club utilizes the paddle reserve system for next-court availability. During this popular time, this keeps the flow of the games moving efficiently.
- Courts 1-4: Beginner/Intermediate
- Courts 5-8: Intermediate/Advanced
- Saturday Open Round Robin Play (June-August) 8:30-11:30am
Saturday morning games are open to everyone. You do not need to arrive at precisely 8:30am or stay until 11:30am. Six of the eight courts are reserved for Round Robin Play, which leaves two courts available for Open Play. Participants can come when they want, go when they want, or sit out a game or two for a rest. Games are 10-12 minutes long, depending on the number of players. Players may start another game if a game ends before time is up.
This is a fun event for everyone, regardless of skill level. Everyone is welcome, and it’s a great way to meet people and have a good time.
