Colorado Jail Program Leads the Way in Mental Health
 Support

Integrated Insight Community Care is pleased to announce that the Delta County Jail ‘Jail Based Behavior Services’ (JBBS) program has achieved national recognition for its pioneering role in providing comprehensive mental health support to incarcerated individuals. Recently, the Attorney General’s outreach team has shown interest in touring rural jails to witness firsthand the innovative programs and harm reduction initiatives at Delta Jail.

The JBBS program offers a broad spectrum of services as outlined in the JBBS grant within Delta County Jail. These services encompass Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT), in-custody counseling, case management, Medicaid navigation, and collaboration with parole and probation departments. Additionally, the program manages referrals to rehabilitation facilities across the state, as per judicial system recommendations. JBBS’s approach to care extends beyond the jail’s walls, creating a comprehensive and person-centered assistance framework for individuals grappling with competency issues.

JBBS’s strategic approach has positioned it as a leading model for mental health support and harm reduction initiatives within correctional facilities. The program’s impressive efforts have been nationally recognized and further boosted by an $86,000 Federal Grant to establish and operate a MAT program within the jail. This initiative aligns with Colorado’s new Harm Reduction Movement, further demonstrating Delta Jail’s commitment to innovation and the welfare of those in custody.

“As part of Integrated Insight Community Care, we are incredibly proud to be associated with the JBBS program within Delta County Jail,” said Jackie Felix. “Sheriff Mark Taylor has shown a strong commitment to fostering positive change, reflecting a shared vision with JBBS and IICC for a stronger community. Sheriff Taylor, and Captain Cano both understand the importance of mental health intervention and treatment during incarceration, while also recognizing the value of social justice. Our collective commitment to the mental well-being of incarcerated individuals and promoting harm reduction initiatives is unwavering. The national recognition and the recent Federal Grant are testament to our joint dedication to creating a supportive and compassionate environment within correctional facilities.”

As Delta County Jail continues to lead in providing mental health support and pioneering harm reduction initiatives, Integrated Insight Community Care looks forward to sharing the jail’s accomplishments and best practices with the AG’s outreach team. The goal is to inspire other institutions to adopt similar programs across the nation, collaboratively working to create a more empathetic and effective criminal justice system.

Integrated Insight Community Care, based in Delta, Colorado, is a leading organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals within correctional facilities. We are proud to collaborate with innovative initiatives like the Jail Based Behavior Services (JBBS) program in Delta County Jail. Together, our shared commitment to mental health support and harm reduction is driving a transformative change in the criminal justice system.
