Giant Slalom Race Scheduled for Next Saturday at Wolf Creek

Wolf Creek Ski Area will be hosting a Giant Slalom Race on Saturday, January 28.

Wolf Creek hosted its third Fun Race for the season on Sunday, January 22. The modified grand slalom course was held on Lower Charisma with a nicely groomed course. The race brought with it an amazing turnout of 63 racers, with racers traveling in from Oklahoma, North Carolina and Arizona.

Last Sunday’s overall winner was once again Corbin Horrocks, of South Fork, with the fastest time of 25.29 seconds – a nearly two second improvement from his last winning race on January 8. David Sciole of South Fork came in second with a time of 26.95. Third place went to Land Matthes of Sandia Peak, NM with his impressive time of 27.24 seconds.

The Ladies race also had outstanding results, particularly in the 50+ groups, with all race times coming in sub-50 seconds. Julie Church of Pinetop, AZ finished at 32.33 to take the fastest time of the Ladies race. Sandy Sharp of Fountain Hills, AZ took second place with her time of 32.75 seconds, and third place went to Elizabeth Kunz of Pagosa Springs with a race time of 33.53.

Wolf Creek will be hosting our Giant Slalom Race on Saturday, January 28. Race registration will be at the Base Camp deck from 8-9:00 with course inspection from 9am to 10 am. Race will begin promptly at 10am with the first race running 10-11am and the second race from 11-noon.

The award ceremony will be held at the Base Camp Deck at 2:30pm.
