Archuleta Dems Sponsoring ‘Freedom’ Contest for Middle School, High School Students

By Lynn R. Frederick

To celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and to encourage young people to discuss this topic with the adults in their lives, the Archuleta County Democratic Party is sponsoring a writing and poster contest for all Archuleta County middle schoolers and high schoolers.

The topic of the contest is, “Freedom and Responsibility in America: What They Mean to Me.”

Entries will be judged on how well the students express their thoughts about what it means to be free, to feel free, and the responsibilities that come with freedom.  Cash prizes will be awarded.

While this contest is sponsored by the Archuleta County Democratic Party, the contest is open to all Archuleta County students in grades 5-12 without regard to the party affiliation of their parents or guardians.

Students may enter in either the poster or writing categories.  Middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) entries will be judged separately.  Cash prizes will be awarded in each submission category at each school tier:  $100 to each winning entry, $50 to each first runner-up, and $25 to each second runner-up.

The deadline for entries is Friday, October 14, 2022.  Winners will be recognized at a ceremony on November 12, 2022.

For a complete list of rules and directions on how to submit entries, go to archuletadems.org.
