On June 23, the Pagosa Springs Town Council spent a full day in a strategic planning retreat discussing the future of Pagosa Springs. In addition to the essential services that the Town provides, such as public safety services, parks and recreation, road maintenance, municipal courts, and building/planning services, the Town Council adopted a set of goals and objectives that it would like to tackle in the coming year and beyond.
These goals were officially approved at a recent Council meeting, and will serve as the basis for the Town’s annual operating and capital budgets and as a roadmap for staff to implement these goals.
At the top of the list are the Council’s highest priorities which include:
Sanitation District: Stabilize the pumping system, continue maintenance and upgrade efforts and explore long-term community solutions with the Town’s goal of getting out of the Sanitation business.
Workforce Housing: Address current and projected needs by supporting efforts to add more deed-restricted units to local inventory through the public and private sectors.
Explore Creating a Recreation District: Engage the support of the broader community beyond the Town in providing and managing parks, trails, open spaces, and recreational amenities in a coordinated and thoughtful way.
In addition to Town Council’s top priorities above, there are eight other goals that Council has identified in the plan. These goals pertain to land acquisition strategy; traffic management, parking and road maintenance; collaboration with advisory boards; early childhood care and education; historic preservation and Main Street program; broadband reliability; public art initiatives; and parks, trails and river access opportunities.
