Wolf Creek Ski Area kicked off our spring break week by hosting our Spring Fling Fun Race on Sunday, March 13. There was a good turnout of 63 racers from as far away as Weisbaden, Germany, with local racers taking the two fastest times of the day.
The race course was immaculately groomed with the new snow from the storm last week which, along with the cooler days, made the base almost perfect for racing.
The overall winner for the day was David Sciole, of South Fork, with the fastest time of 26.28 seconds, with Rich Carson, of Pagosa Springs, right behind him with a time of 26.85 seconds. Third place went to Jesse Schedler of Albuquerque, who crossed the finish line in 28.15 seconds.
In the women’s race, Meredith Jameson, of Amarillo, Texas, took first place, with her time of 29.40 seconds, while second place went to Madeline Watkins, of Houston, TX, with a time of 30.63 seconds. Megan Harris, of Amarillo, was right behind for third place with a time of 32.16 seconds.
Wolf Creek will be hosting the second-to-last Fun Race of the season, this coming Sunday, March 20. The race course will be a modified grand slalom course on the lower Charisma run. It is free to all ages and ability levels with the purchase of a lift ticket.
Registration begins at 9:30am at the top of the race course, and the course will be open between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Medals will be awarded to the three fastest racers in each age and gender category.
