LETTER: Without a Workforce, There is No Tourism Industry

I would like to voice my support for HB22-1117, which would allow counties to direct tax dollars to meet the needs of both their visitors and their workforce, allowing communities to thrive. We need to invest in services like affordable housing and childcare for essential workers to allow our neighbors to continue living in the communities they serve.

Speaking as a student, a mother, and a social worker, this bill aligns with my values of creating opportunities for all members of our community by ensuring they are not struggling to afford basic needs.

Archuleta County is a wonderful place to live, but I have seen first-hand how the cost of living impacts my colleagues and clients. Shifting lodging tax dollars over to support our workforce would be a win-win for not only the residents in this community, but it will also positively impact visitors as well.

The bottom line is this: without a workforce, there is no tourist industry.

I urge each member of my community as well as my legislators to support HB22-1117.
