OPINION: Time to ACCT

By Rachel Suh

This election year, we need to hold our elected officials to high standards. As a District 3 Archuleta County Commissioner candidate, I will A.C.C.T.: I will be Accountable, Conduct local business ethically, provide a listening ear to amplify Community engagement and work to provide Transparency to County initiatives. In this time, more than ever, we need government representatives who are going to stay within the confines of their limited powers and will follow the Constitution, not because it is proper restraint, but because there is an ethical agreement to follow the documents our community is founded upon.

After deep consideration to run for County Commissioner — based on the motivating words from individuals in the community — and having listened to local concerns regarding housing, law enforcement, local health, development, conservation, and limited natural resources from various viewpoints, I feel running as an unaffiliated candidate is the swiftest path to change for my family and our community.

As a County representative, I will support individual rights for fiscal, social, and environmental issues.

Hearing about the issues from you is important to me, so I have provided an opportunity to write me about your concerns directly at www.rachelsunshinesuh.com. Now is the time to work on finding solutions that are community-focused, and I look forward to hearing about what matters most from you, so we can put our various perspectives together and come to a solution that helps the individual people in this community to live together as a Community that Cares.

It’s clear we all care passionately about where we have chosen to call home, no matter where we stand on the issues, and I would like for our commonality (a deep love for this small piece of Heaven on Earth) to bring us together instead of allowing our differences to pull us apart.

Now is the time to be Community Strong, to be Constitutionally and Ethically Strong, and I will strive towards these goals as District 3 Archuleta County Commissioner.
