Public Presentation Will Focus on Workforce Housing Solutions

On Monday, August 30, Pagosa’s community leaders and interested citizens are invited to join Jennifer Kermode, executive director for the Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority, for a lively discussion about ways to address the housing crisis in Archuleta County.

The meeting starts at 9:00am at the Ross Aragon Community Center, South Conference Room. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served. The meeting is open to the public and offered free of charge.

Jennifer will be discussing potential funding sources for increasing housing supply, and also tools that local governments and housing agencies can use to help increase the supply of housing, keep housing affordable to live in, and protect local investments in housing. Together, we’ll look at where we’re losing the affordable housing supply, and methods to manage the housing stock that already exists.

“There is no silver bullet for the lack of workforce housing supply in our communities,” Jennifer explains, “but collective brainstorming can bring to light ideas that have what I call ‘bloom potential!’ The hope is to grow that bloom potential by continuing to foster conversations among stakeholders.”

Jennifer has used her 14 years of affordable housing experience to grow housing options in rural and resort communities in Colorado by creating innovative programs to address unique residential housing challenges. Past achievements include regionalizing resources, obtaining permanent funding sources for housing efforts, developing unique community education programs, and establishing a master lease program to address the impacts of short-term rentals.

Presentation sponsors include Pagosa Housing Partners, Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County, and the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce.
