Everything You Wanted to Know About Pagosa’s 4th of July, But Were Afraid to Ask

Pagosa Springs organizations and businesses have numerous activities planned for the 4th of July holiday weekend. Following are some of the more prominent activities occurring. There are also some important deadlines approaching; make sure you don’t miss them.

4th of July Parade – Saturday, July 3, 10 a.m.
The annual 4th of July parade will occur, but just a day earlier than the actual 4th. Tomorrow, Saturday, July 3 at 10 a.m. the parade will take place. The staging area will remain at the High School with the entries lining up along 6th Street. The parade will go out onto Highway 160 traveling east to Hot Springs Blvd. The parade will then turn south onto Hot Springs Blvd and continue to Apache St where it will finish up back at the High School. People are encouraged to line up along the route, just not with their cars, trucks or trailers. Bring your chairs, family and friends.

There will be NO parking along the parade route including 1st St. and the 100 block of Lewis St. from 9 p.m. on July 2 until after the parade. Vehicles parked along the route will be towed and at the owner’s expense. Please adhere to these guidelines and save yourself the expense of a tow. Parade applications can be downloaded from the Town’s website, www.pagosasprings.co.gov, completed and turned back in by July 1 at noon. Late entries will not be accepted, so please turn in your applications with liability waivers by July 1. If you can’t attend the parade, listen to it live on KWUF ON 1400 AM and 102.5 FM.

Park to Park Artisan Market
The annual Park to Park Artisan Market will begin on Friday, July 2 at 10 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. on July 4. Sixty vendors will attend this year with a wide array of goods that will have something for almost everyone! Jewelry, clothing, accessories, pottery, gemstones, sculptings, wood and metal work, soaps, lotions and body products, yard art and so much more will be on hand. Get birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and other gifts under your belt. Many of your favorite vendors will return; however, there are also a number of new vendors to give us a wonderful variety of handcrafted items.

Red Ryder Rodeo Roundup
The 71st Red Ryder Roundup Rodeo will also be held from July 2 to July 4. On July 2nd and 3rd the rodeo will take place at 6 p.m. The performance on the 4th of July will be held at 2 p.m. All performances will be at the Western Heritage Event Center off of Hwy 84 and Mill Creek Rd. Tickets can be purchased online at www.pagosarodeo.com or at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. They are NOT available at the Chamber or at Goodman’s Dept. Store. The Chamber is only selling tickets for the Thursday night rodeos which will reconvene on Thursday, July 15.

Humane Society Auction for the Animals
On Saturday, July 3, the Humane Society will virtually host their Auction for the Animals and 2nd annual Pet Fashion Show at 6:30 p.m. This event is free to attend and you can go to www.hspagosa.org to log onto the show. There are over 250 items that you can bid on from June 28 to July 5. Don’t miss out on some fabulous packages and items and enjoy some belly laughs as you see dogs, cats, horses and even snakes “walk” down the red carpet.

Freedom Float
Take a walk along the RiverWalk and watch the Freedom Float down the San Juan River on July 4th at 1 p.m. If you have a floating device, join in the fun, cool off and float down the river in costume or your red, white and blue. Entry to the float will be by Riff Raff on the Rio and the take out will be at the Centennial Bridge.

Patriotic Concert
After watching the Freedom Float, continue down the RiverWalk to Centennial Park and relax and listen to the Instrumental Society as they play patriotic music beginning at 2 p.m. at The Springs Resort’s back lawn area. Stroll around the Geothermal Greenhouses and see all the gardens and improvements that have occurred in the recent years. This is another free event where you can entertain family and friends and enjoy the walkability and many activities that will be happening in the downtown area.

Fireworks
One of the most popular events over the 4th of July holiday, the annual Fireworks, are scheduled to take place on the 4th of July around 9:15 p.m. Thanks to some rain these past days, the fireworks will be shot off at the usual location near the High School. Viewing can best be enjoyed around the High School areas, Yamaguchi Park, and around the south Pagosa area.

This will be a fitting end to a fun-filled, activity-filled weekend. Don’t forget to get in a BBQ, enjoy dining at one of our dedicated restaurants, and enjoy the many retail shops that will be open to accommodate Pagosa residents and visitors.
