VIDEO: Dedication of the Terry Hershey Garden

On June 23, Audubon Rockies, the Geothermal Greenhouse partnership and the Town of Pagosa Springs invited the community to the dedication of the Terry Hershey Memorial Garden, in Centennial Park overlooking the San Juan River. The event also celebrated “Native Plants Week” — appropriately enough, since the Terry Hershey Garden features a selection of native flowers, intended to attract local native insects, and thereby, local birds and migratory birds.

Here is a brief Daily Post video featuring two representatives from Audubon Rockies, addressing the gathering: Keith Bruno, Southwest Colorado Community Naturalist, and John Kloster-Prew, Deputy Director.

As Mr. Kloster-Prew explains to the gathered celebrants, Audubon’s ‘Habitat Hero’ program “is just simply, planting native plants that will attract birds, bees, butterflies and other pollinators…”

“It’s simple to be a Habitat Hero. Anybody here can be a Habitat Hero, whether it’s a garden this size, or a couple of potted plants on a balcony…”
