POEM: Masks

fights are down arguments
confrontations anger at
our fellow man
you can’t hate anonymity
we are
more helpful now
more careful than fearful more
resigned
than indignant
we wish for the best and look
longingly at empty streets
we have nothing left
but faith
we will wear masks
forever
