Members of the public are invited — today — to comment before the Colorado Legislature’s most powerful committee about the most important annual bill.

The Joint Budget Committee is in the process of developing the state budget plan for the 2021-22 fiscal year, and members of the public on Wednesday will have their first opportunity to weigh in on the subject. They can also provide input on budgetary adjustments for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

The hearing is scheduled for 1:30pm today, Wednesday, January 27, and members of the public may participate remotely through the WebEx application or by submitting written testimony. Members of the public previously had the option to appear in person before the committee, but not this year, due to pandemic restrictions.

Those who participate are asked to sign up in advance by 1pm today. Public testimony is expected to be limited to three minutes per participant.

The six-member Joint Budget Committee writes the state budget, which later in the legislative session lawmakers in the House and Senate must approve. The committee is chaired by Sen. Dominick Moreno, a Commerce City Democrat.
