“Biodiversity.”
This word brings to mind the plant and animal species threatened with extinction — about 1 million species we share our world with, according to Yale Climate Connection.
It is past the time for concern. As a Colorado resident, I commend Congressman Joe Neguse for his resolution to protect biodiversity, which includes a plan to implement special protections for species affected by climate change. Colorado Parks and Wildlife lists about 75 plant and animal species that are endangered in this state alone.
Saving endangered plants or animals from extinction is significant because, like them, we need clean air, a stable climate, and a healthy environment to survive and thrive. Therefore, by protecting biodiversity, we protect our lives as well.
Speak up, and demand that our elected officials, including President-elect Joe Biden, join Congressman Neguse in supporting legislation that preserves biodiversity here in Colorado, the United States, and across our planet.
