LETTER: What Can We Do Together?

Well, it wasn’t a ‘good day’ for either Republican, Democrat or American. Ole Trump bit the dust but the GOP Senate majority is currently holding and they gained seats in the House, while we all discovered that there were a bunch of ashamed-to-admit-it Trump voters. Yes, they told the pollsters one thing and then did the opposite.

It seems that these ‘hidden’ Trump supporters are a mix of men who are roaring misogynists and see the Democrats as weak leftists (with Latino men leading this category), white college educated women who secretly don’t trust women to lead, and the largest group are your everyday survivalists who defer to strong men as leaders.

Abraham Maslow was a shrink who said human needs can be prioritized — with the two top needs being survival and safety. Hoot and holler all you want, but America is now sharing its super power status with China. Add to that, fear of cultural and racial power threats; our own self-induced form of national fratricide by tax-incenting our companies to move factories abroad… along with the consistent refusal to re-educate or move for new jobs… plus IT changing everything… and you get conscious and unconscious awareness of our country being in decline.

Remember Maslow’s conclusion about the need to survive and be safe… throw in some riots, and voila, you get a lot of Trump voters.

So, can anyone fix these problems? Maybe… maybe… But let’s ask : if you’re the typical Latino male or insecure white man, are you going to accept a woman to be in charge… or a white educated suburban woman who distrusts her own sex because she was taught to… or a militia nut-job leering out from under a blanket while grasping your AR in bed at night with an NRA sticker on your forehead… Will we allow anyone — anyone — to lead us out of this national decline?

The election is over except for the shouting and foaming at mouth by diehards… the lady with a significant presence has sung.

It’s our nation. We are under attack by foreign powers; we all have grandchildren; the climate (like-it-or-not) is turning very bad; we’re going to want to eat tomorrow; COVID can kill you… what can we do together to allow America to survive and then become Great Again?
