Pagosa Peak ‘Drive-In Movies’ to Present Cult Classic Film for Ages 17+

Pagosa Peak Open School (PPOS), Archuleta County’s district-authorized public charter school, invites Pagosans age 17 and up to join us for a “Cult Classic” film on Friday, October 30 — the evening before Halloween. PPOS has been showing family-friendly movies in the school parking lot all summer long, as fund-raising events — but this particular film is intended for mature audiences only.

You may be able to guess the title of this 1975 musical comedy from the image above… but if you haven’t, send an email to movies@ppos.co to learn more about the event… and receive a link where you can reserve a parking spot. The movie will start at 8pm in the school parking lot, (7 Parelli Way) and entry is by donation. Drive-in-movie-style concessions will be available for purchase. Suggested donation is $20/vehicle. This cult classic movie showing will be part of the school’s final weekend of the “Drive-in Movie Nights” fundraiser series. (Movie Nights will resume in the spring.)

Email movies@ppos.co to reserve your spot, or click the link on this PPOS web page to make your donation.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the school’s ‘Capital Campaign’ for building renovations and program enhancements.  With help from donors and grants, PPOS purchased our school building last spring, knowing that the building was in need of repairs and upgrades. PPOS is also re-inventing our education setting to meet statewide COVID standards and encourage social distancing. Our Board has approved additional programming and funding initiatives such as a greenhouse, playground redesign, academic remediation and distance learning targets.

Our Capital Campaign, once fulfilled, will ensure that our school continues to give the best education possible to our small, rural mountain community. The proposed three-year Capital Campaign will fund:

  • Necessary School Building Repairs and Upgrades ($750,000)
  • Schoolyard Redesign ($150,000)
  • Outdoor Learning Supplies ($60,000)
  • Distance Learning Materials and Support ($40,000)
  • School Counselor ($60,000)
  • The Education of Our Youth (Priceless)

Pagosa Peak Open School is a tuition-free, public charter school serving Archuleta County. Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in February. We offer learning opportunities through real-world activities, multi-age classrooms, character development, and discovery-based education. PPOS is designed to be an intentionally small school with a ratio of one teacher to 15 students.
