I enjoyed the recent articles by Louis Cannon and Harvey Radin and appreciate citizen efforts to support the US Postal Service, a critical support in our democracy that most of us never stopped to consider, including me. In a similar vein of thought, I bought a couple hundred dollars of “Forever” stamps back in the spring when I heard USPS was struggling to stay afloat and under fire, knowing I’d eventually use them regardless. But I recently decided to hold off on sending extra mail for now, realizing once the stamps are purchased it doesn’t actually make the post office more money to put them in the mail for processing in delivery—in fact it will make things worsen the backlog leading up to the election.
I created a new petition and posted on Change.org to encourage people to immediately go to www.dmachoice.org to opt out of junk mail they don’t want to receive to help ease USPS delivery burden. I completely realize that won’t help the USPS’s bottom line at this moment, but considering Congress is being called back into session over funding the postal service and likely to pass because stimulus that our entire economy depends on is hitched to it and no one wants to see the economy, stock market or their political careers further collapse, it seems like less mail to ensure more mail-in ballots are delivered it worth it.
I would be honored if you would take a look at my petition and see if it’s something you might let your readers know about. (By the way, I’m a middle aged person with very low social media literacy, just hoping others can find my campaign and take quick action to make a difference!)
Thank you!
