A Safe and Healthy Fourth?

San Juan Basin Public Health continues to work with a variety of businesses, organizations, and populations in La Plata and Archuleta counties to expand COVID-19 testing options. Since May 18, SJBPH has supported over 43 locations for workplace, facility, and at-risk population testing and tested close to 1,500 individuals.

With the significant increases in cases again this week in La Plata County, SJBPH was busy performing disease investigations for positive COVID-19 cases which includes contact tracing, isolation and quarantine guidance and follow-up, and coordination with state and county public health agencies on non-resident individuals who tested positive in either Archuleta or La Plata counties. See all testing locations and information here.

Have a healthy and safe 4th of July:
Is it safe for friends and family to gather during a pandemic? The answer is personal: you must weigh the risk versus the reward and have a plan to minimize exposure to COVID-19. The safest plan is to celebrate the weekend with your household unit only.  Keep it outdoors; you increase the risk of infection when gathering in indoor spaces. Maintaining appropriate physical distancing is still important. Wear a face-covering when you can’t distance or if you’re having a conversation in close proximity.

Learn more here on how to stay safe and healthy this 4th of July.

Local Case Count:
La Plata County cases: 120 (+13 since last Friday)
Archuleta County cases: 9 (+1 since last Friday)
La Plata County non-resident cases: 3
Archuleta County non-resident cases: 6
This week SJBPH added non-resident case counts to our data dashboard. See more data and definitions of our data points here.

The State of Colorado released its 8th Amended Public Health Order 20-28 SAFER AT HOME AND IN THE VAST, GREAT OUTDOORS, effective June 30 for 30 days.

The state also released the framework for the next phase of re-opening, Protect Our Neighbors. Protect Our Neighbors means that communities that meet certain criteria can adopt less stringent restrictions than under Stay-At-Home and Safer-At-Home.

SJBPH extended its Fourth Amended Public Health Order SJB-20-01 effective July 2 and effective through July 31.
