PHOTO ESSAY: Pagosa Baptist Church, During the Pandemic

Starting this Sunday night at 7pm will be the 15th anniversary of Pagosa Baptist Tent Revival — an open invitation to hear the Gospel and learn what the Bible has for everyone.

The shutdown on Church gatherings has presented a tremendous strain on people. Meeting together is fundamental to the spirit of the Christian faith. Churches around the world were closed due to the pandemic and most of them made great efforts to keep parishioners close.

Online sermons, telephone broadcasts, praise and worship music recorded and performed live, all to share the love God gracefully gives to anyone who will accept that love. It is a comfort to those in need and can calm the heart from so much that has happened. Opening The Bible has been a way to cope, a way to cast aside the tough challenges that are in the past, present and future.

We can see that most of that around us is out of our control. By putting our cares and needs in God’s hands, life can be lived with more contentment and a spirit of the love that God imparts to us.

After the first couple of weeks of the shutdown and sermons broadcast on the phone, Pastor Albach of Pagosa Baptist Church missed meeting so much that he purchased an FM transmitter. For several weeks faithful parishioners arrived on Sunday at 10:30am sat in their cars with the radio tuned to 107.9. They came to sing hymns of praise, learn God’s word and hear The Gospel.

Now so many weeks later, finally, churches are able to meet again. There are many rules that have been implemented by the government to keep people safe from the virus: how many can congregate, space between people, masks, singing, disinfecting common surfaces and the list goes on. But people need The Lord. God will never leave or forsake those who love Him.

I am grateful to live in a country that gives us the right to worship. This test of faith has made me realize I had taken that right for granted.
