First Positive COVID-19 Case Reported in La Plata County

San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) has received the first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in an adult resident of La Plata County. No further details about the case will be shared to protect the privacy of this individual. SJBPH will perform public health practice steps for disease investigation and control which includes tracing this individual’s contacts.

“San Juan Basin Public Health has been preparing for weeks, as a case in our jurisdiction has been expected.”, said SJBPH Executive Director Liane Jollon. “We are operating under the assumption that COVID-19 is circulating in the community and aggressive social distancing steps should be practiced by all residents,” she said.

SJBPH continues to work closely with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and our local partners in response to this evolving outbreak.

If individuals believe they have COVID-19 symptoms, or believe they’ve been exposed to the virus, SJBPH is urging self-quarantine or isolation to reduce the spread of the virus. People with severe illness should call their doctor.
