As a first time voter and a college student, I am excited to share why I’m heading to the polls this Tuesday. Here goes:
In 2016, I could not vote, but as I watched the presidential election go down, I realized that something was fundamentally wrong with our country. How is it that in the wealthiest country in the history of this planet, our Democratic presidential nominee was unwilling to promise a serious investment in the American people?
In the United States today, our infrastructure is crumbling, our environment is dying, poor people are getting poorer, and a small group of wealthy elites is monopolizing political and economic power. Despite all of this, I remain hopeful because I see a strong and viable alternative. That alternative is Bernie Sanders, and now that I am old enough to vote, I will be casting my ballot for him this Super Tuesday.
Never in our history have we had a candidate more consistent and more courageous than Senator Sanders, and in a time where our country has found itself in a place of desperation, his visionary policies may be our last chance for turning this country around. I hope you join me in voting for Bernie Sanders this primary. It may be one of our last chances to save the democracy we are so lucky to have.
