Keep It Flowing, Pagosa

The Pagosa Springs Sanitation General Improvement District (PSSGID) has had challenges related to inappropriate items being flushed down the toilet or added to the sewer system.

Some of the most surprising items found in the sewer lines include wood pieces, cloth rags and toys.

Anything added to the sewer system beyond human waste, water and toilet paper adds undue strain on our sewer infrastructure. The Town and the PSSGID are taking many steps, including preventive measures to avoid issues at our pump stations that may result in pump failures or a sewage spill, but we need your help to keep our sewer system operational and free from unnecessary debris.

Toilets aren’t trashcans, so remember that even ‘flushable’ baby wipes, feminine products, paper towels, medication, and FOGs (fats, oils and grease) should not be flushed down the toilet or put down the drain.

Proper disposal of these items will help ease the strain on our sewer system – and keep things flowing more smoothly!
