Updated Eligibility for Colorado Students to Receive In-State Tuition

The Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA) has received a makeover.

CASFA is the application by which students that meet the qualifications can apply for state financial aid.

In 2022, the General Assembly passed HB22-1155, In-state Tuition For Colorado High School Graduates, which updates the eligibility criteria for Colorado students to receive in-state tuition.

The law requires an institution to classify a student as an ASSET student for tuition purposes if the student:

  • Graduated from a Colorado high school or was physically present in Colorado for at least one year immediately preceding the date the student successfully completed a high school equivalency examination in Colorado; and
  • Has been physically present in Colorado for at least 12 consecutive months prior to enrolling in an institution.

There is no longer a requirement for the student to be admitted to college within 12 months of graduation.

The new and improved CASFA now offers the following:

  • More user autonomy and functionality
  • Students can edit and revise their application and reset their password
  • The portal offers both scholarship and community resources for our immigrant student population on the Useful Links page

We are excited to bring forth these changes to better serve our college-bound Colorado students.

Students can check out all the new enhancements and features by completing the CASFA here.
