LETTER: Example of a Proper TABOR Notice

If Bill Hudson’s complaint against Archuleta County is accurate, the TABOR notice for Archuleta County ballot issue 1A did not follow the same process governments use in other parts of Colorado.

A specific example is the city of Durango printed word-for-word the comments FOR and AGAINST their ballot issue 2A. The Durango clerk even had to discard the comments that came from the mayor’s husband because he failed to include his address. Everyone knows the mayor’s husband lives right down the street from city hall, but the law is the law and the clerk acted appropriately. The result of the Durango clerk’s actions was a poorly written FOR argument and a strongly written AGAINST argument.

A failed election in Durango will cost the city $1 million in revenues, but she followed the law down to the letter and gained trust of the citizens in the community.

I look forward to the result of the case Bill Hudson filed against Archuleta County regarding the alleged illegal writing of the TABOR notice. In our current time, given what went on in Mesa County, the elections must be conducted with the highest standards.
