Pagosa’s Spring Clean Event Happens Tomorrow, April 23

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 23, the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County are sponsoring a community cleanup day, this year labeled ‘The Big Spring Clean’. Similar annual events have been hosted by our local governments for the past couple of decades.

To participate in some planned volunteer cleanup projects, folks should meet at Yamaguchi Park from 9:30 to 11:30am to get their assignments.

Volunteers will be treated to a barbecue following the cleanup efforts at Yamaguchi Park from 11:30am to 1pm, to include an ice cream contest held in honor of the late Larry Fisher. Entertainment will be provided by the Jackson Mountain Ramblers.

As part of Saturday’s ‘Big Springs Clean’, Archuleta County will provide free dumping of household items for all county residents at the Landfill, located at 9179 County Road 500 (Trujillo Road) as shown at the bottom of this map:

There will also be free dumping at two containers located at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association clubhouse from 8am to noon, but you must provide proof of residency — a driver’s license or utility bill. (Shown on the map above.)

From April 19-23, free recycling will be available at the Transfer Station, located on 2140 Trujillo Road (also shown on the map.) Please separate and prepare your recyclables before disposing them at the Transfer Station. Fees will apply for TVs and monitors.

Here are the items that will not be accepted at the Transfer Station or at the Landfill:

“Commercial, construction, demolition, mattresses, appliances, furniture and carcasses are not included, and normal fees will apply. Items not accepted at any time include Hazardous waste in any form, liquids, used oils, chemicals, pesticides, fuels, anti-freeze, household cleaners, contaminated soil, friable asbestos, tires, car bodies, trailers, burning trash, hot barrels or ashes.”

If you have questions about the event, contact the Pagosa Springs Area Visitor Center at (970) 585-1200.
