My name is Sonja Silva and I have been a Registered Nurse for 16 years, 9 of which were as a Hospice RN. I also hold a BA in Comparative Religion from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. I want to tell you about June Ellen Marquez, who is running for Archuleta County Commissioner.
June and I attended school together in Ignacio, CO from kindergarten through high school. I am proud to call her my friend. I don’t spend much time with people because I choose quality over quantity. I have five treasured friends and June is one of them. I try hard to serve our Lord in my life. At this very moment, as I write, I am in Gallup, NM volunteering as an RN for two weeks with the Navajo Nation. June shares my passion to serve the Lord. Although neither of us are perfect by any means, she is one of the most God fearing people that I know.
I knew June when she raised her children as a single mother. Even as a single mother, she was a power house. In high school she was our class president and she worked hard to make sure things got done. My Grandmother raised 10 children and was very hard working. One day she commented, “Esa Mujer es una trabajadora!” (“This woman is a worker!”). My grandmother’s comment spoke volumes about June.
When June considered running for Archuleta County Commissioner, I told her, “Do it!” Although she has never run for public office before I have no doubt she will do an outstanding job. Her parents’ farm is in Arboles where she grew up. June cares about Archuleta County, after all our families have lived in this area for hundreds of years… literally. June will learn what needs to be done and she will work hard for all of you because that is her nature.
So today, I ask you to please vote for June E. Marquez. I promise you will not regret it!
