Feel Calmer with ‘Matters of the Heart’ Workshop Feb. 13

Are politics getting you down? Is your job stressing you out? Are your kids driving you up the wall? Are you feeling pressure from finances, an overloaded schedule, health issues or even no snow?

On Thursday, February 13, at 12:30pm, Cheri Minnier-Wells, LPC, will be offering practical tips on how to feel calmer and happier. What a gift for Valentine’s Day.

This one-hour workshop will meet in the fellowship hall of the Community United Methodist Church at 434 Lewis St. Admission is free and all are welcome.

“We’ll look at how stress impacts the way we think and how we act,” said Minnier-Wells. “This seminar will help you to respond in a healthy way rather than reacting angrily or withdrawing. Together, we’ll explore how stress impacts relationships with people we love. You’ll come away from this talk with specific tools for calming and descalating.”

Cheri is a licensed professional counselor in practice for more than 10 years. She was formerly the director of behavioral health at Native Americans for Community Action, with many years of experience as a therapist working with individuals and couples on and off the Navajo reservation. She is trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and the concepts of positive psychology. She moved to Pagosa Springs with her husband and dog Zas from Flagstaff in the summer of 2022. Her husband is a general contractor and together they built their new home here. They love the Pagosa lifestyle: skiing, river sports, live music and soaking.

“You can feel less stressed and happier quickly with the information and tools I will be presenting,” she said. “Cognitive behavioral therapy techniques can dramatically improve people’s quality of life in a short period of time.”

This workshop is funded by a grant from the Abundant Health Ministry of the United Methodist Church.

“As United Methodists, we are committed to promoting abundant health for all,” said Pastor Ken Daniell. “Our denomination has always been a catalyst for good health and wellbeing, in our own communities and around the world. Our programs help to enrich all aspects of wellness: emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical. We are proud to continue this legacy here in Pagosa Springs.”

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” — John 10:10b (NRSV)
